Saturdays with Open Circle

Saturdays with Open Circle

September 12 and 19, 3:00-9:00pm

Join us to ground yourself at the beginning of the new term while meeting others in the Open Circle community. You are welcome to participate in any or all of these virtual events. Sample our Reflection Circles and Self-development courses, hear about other people's experiences, and learn about how to get involved virtually in serving the Hamilton community through Community Volunteer Circle’s weekly volunteer groups. Discover more about Hamilton and McMaster, try mindfulness practices, explore meaning through movie discussion, hear others’ best practices for navigating an online semester, or hang out for some games. Create new connections and get to know others who have similar interests in self-discovery and living life with intention. Find supports for this new and unprecedented way of doing school. We look forward to meeting you!

Mindfulness is the practice of awareness, being present, and living consciously without judgement. A hobby is a regular activity you do that brings you joy. Combining them together can be powerful. Mindful hobbies can ground us during times of change and difficulty. They can also support us in our personal journeys. Discover what mindful hobbies are and how members of the Open Circle community use mindful hobbies in their lives. You will also get a chance to try a few mindful hobbies in a safe, welcoming, and inspiring space with others!

5:00-6:30pm: Discover Hamilton

A whole new world?! Join Open Circle on an exciting Zoom call this weekend as we take you on an internet-based carpet ride over the beautiful city of Hamilton. During the trip we will explore the university campus, learn about McMaster, dive into nature around us, play some games and have a wonderful discussion about some fun things to do in the city!

7:00-9:00pm: Validity & Authenticity - Movie Discussion

Reflect on yourself as you embark on a new stage in your life this term. Join us to watch and discuss 2 short films about the power of authenticity that invite us to think about who we are and what we desire, as well as what we can do to grow and make a difference to others around us.

Open Circle is...

  • Creating forums to discuss life, spiritual and societal issues
